Prunus avium is a component of biodiversity in forest ecosystems: its fruits are eaten by many birds and its early flowering gives it a great aesthetic value. A multipurpose tree, it is present in the forest of Kroumirie in northwest Tunisia. In this region, Prunus avium a species exploited as a rootstock for the cherry tree and as wood for cabinet making by local people. The Tunisian cherry has a heartwood whose natural color varies from light honey to reddish brown through orange hues. This type of wood is intended for "noble" uses such as interior joinery and cabinet making.
