About the author

Autor Jean Rhys,geb. 1890 auf der kleinen westindischen Insel Domenica, begann 1923 in Paris gefördert von Ford Maddox Ford zu schreiben. Bis 1939 erschienen Erzählungen und vier Romane. Erst 1966, mit der Veröffentlichung von 'Sargassomeer', wird Jean Rhys wiederentdeckt, ihr literarischer Rang mit Sylvia Plath und Virginia Woolf verglichen. Jean Rhys starb im Mai 1979 in Devonshire.
