In the second half of the twentieth century, they amassed one of the most important and comprehensive collections of art: Irene and Peter Ludwig. Driven by the idea of putting a panorama of global art on display, from 1970 onwards they were instrumental in the establishment of museums and foundations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Russia, Cuba, and China.
