Seminar paper from the year 2021 in the subject Sociology - Relationships and Family, grade: 1,7, Hult International Business School, language: English, abstract: This text analyzes the ethics of romantic relationships in the workplace, using the case of Harry C. Stonecipher, the former CEO of Boeing, who was forced to resign due to an inappropriate relationship with a female executive. The text evaluates the ethical research question of whether such relationships should be allowed in the workplace and examines labour laws in the US and Germany, where employers can use "love contracts" to regulate these relationships. The text discusses the pros and cons of prohibiting romantic relationships in the workplace, including reducing the risk of harassment and avoiding conflicts of interest. However, such policies can be seen as an infringement on employee privacy and freedom, and some companies may have ulterior motives. The text concludes by proposing the hypothesis that love affairs should not be banned from the workplace and evaluating the question from various perspectives. Ultimately, organizations must consider the potential benefits and drawbacks of prohibiting workplace romances to determine whether such restrictions are necessary.
