In the history of library classification Dewey Decimal Classification or DDC holds a special position. Its worldwide popularity as an almost enumerative classification scheme has won thousands of hearts. It has the features of an enumerative scheme tinged with the flavor of a faceted one. Years have passed but its fame has only increased. Starting its journey in 1876 as a 44-page long booklet it only increased in size to reach the last published printed edition i.e. the 23rd edition of DDC in 2011. The web format which is commonly known as WebDewey is equally popular. The present book on DDC is a comprehensive portrayal of the magnum opus of Melvil Dewey. What this classification scheme was in the past, what it is now, and what it is going to be in the near future, has got its eloquent expression in the thirty chapters of the present book. Melvil Dewey's short biography has also been incorporated into this book. The brief history, primary structure, edition-wise features, treatment of the subject, biasedness of the classification scheme, etc. are pinpointedly mentioned here keeping in mind the needs of the students of library classification.
