The Adventures of Pinocchio is a book by Italian author Carlo Collodi, first published in 1883. It is the story of an impoverished woodcarver named Geppetto who is given a block of wood by his neighbour who had heard the log shout out when he went to carve it.

Geppetto, with plans to make a living as a puppeteer, creates a marionette from the talking log and calls him Pinocchio. Right from the beginning, Pinocchio is full of mischief and naughtiness, and as he sets out to live his life, he encounters many adventures and mishaps, and gets into lots of trouble.

Originally published under the title The Story of a Puppet in serial form in an Italian children's magazine called Giornale per i bambini, the story has become one of the most famous and beloved children's tales of all time. It has been adapted for film and television many times, and is the world's fourth most translated book.
