Informationen zum Autor Edward Gibbon (1737-94) studied briefly at Magdalen College, Oxford and at Lausanne, Switzerland before being elected to Parliament in 1774. His most influential work, THE DECLINE AND FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE, was published in six volumes between 1776 and 1788. Hugh Trevor-Roper was born in Northumberland in 1914 and educated at Charterhouse and Christ Church, Oxford. One of the most renowned historians of the twentieth century, he was the author of the bestselling THE LAST DAYS OF HITLER. He was Regius Professor of Modern History and Fellow of Oriel College, Oxford 1957 to 1980, and Master of Peterhouse, Cambridge from 1980 to 1987. He became Lord Dacre of Glanton in 1979. He died in 2003.
