Following in the footsteps of Alfred Russel Wallace, Austrian author, graphic designer and photographer Michael Grünwald has made it his mission to visit the distinctive islands in the Malayan archipelago to photographically capture their nature. Thus the INTO INDONESIA project was born. His trips have taken him to Sumatra and Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, West Papua and Nusa Tenggara. The purpose of this project is to create and publish a series of books about Indonesia¿s nature.
With images from his last trip to Bali, Flores and the Komodo archipelago, the author has published his discoveries in this second coffee-table book in his Indonesia series to be released in Autumn 2015. In addition to powerful Komodo dragons, often associated with Indonesian myths and whose legend has been set down in writing, the book also showcases prehistoric-looking cephalopods, charming snakes and one of the rarest bird species in the world ¿ the Rothschild¿s Myna. He recounts tales of curious monkeys and blooming orchids, the original Flores hinterland and its legends as well as the pastel-coloured early morning hours on Bali¿s coasts. Last but not least he poses the question: who exactly were the dwarf people of Liang Bua? INTO INDONESIA: Southern Territories documents legendary and rare creatures and dives into the jungle of the monsoon forests and the crystal-clear waters that are home to protected coral species.
