"In Wild Grace, Chelan Harkin uses ecstatic poetry to redefine our relationship with the divine. She targets a tipping point happening in the souls of many that shifts a conceptual relationship with God into a genuine, direct, and satisfying experience. These are visions of the present, speaking into the future. They are openings of the heart and awe-filled possibilities for a life of honesty and joy"--

About the author

Chelan Harkin had a profound mystical experience at 21; in a time of mental/emotional anguish, she was shown how she needed to live in a more transparent and authentic way, and that she would access her gifts to the degree that she opened herself to joy, trauma, power, and tenderness. While Chelan recognized poetry as a love and a gift, its flow at that time was blocked by self-judgment and perfectionism. So she decided to allow herself to write "a bad poem" every day for a month. This unlocked a different creative process and a poetic force that has not stopped flowing. Her publishing journey is only two years old but her first two books, Susceptible to Light and Let Us Dance!, have been self-publishing successes with sales numbers to be envied by most poets today. Her third book, Wild Grace, publishes in November 2023 with Monkfish. Chelan lives with her children in the Pacific Northwest.

Summary

Named a Best Spiritual Book of 2023 by Spirituality and Practice

Wild Grace is Chelan Harkin’s most moving collection of poetry yet… These poems are deeply nourishing. It’s impossible to read them without feeling something long dormant stir inside you.” —Eric Weiner New York Times Best-selling author of The Geography of Bliss

“There’s a Vedic saying: ‘Thy gifts, my Lord, I surrender to Thee.’ Chelan has indeed received a Divine gift. I don’t think ordinary human intelligence could express such depth in words..” —Rick Archer, host of podcast Buddha at the Gas Pump: Conversations with “Ordinary” Spiritually Awakening People

Substantial author outreach to include:

  • Chelan will reach out to the many bookstores carrying her other books.
  • Chelan will reach out to clergy members who have shared her other books to promote Wild Grace to their congregations and inquire about speaking opportunities.
  • Chelan will reach out to the three university professors who used her books as textbooks to invite them to do the same with Wild Grace. She will reach out to other professors with whom she is in contact about this possibility as well.
  • Chelan will reach out to the big platforms she has interviewed with in the past for return interviews to promote Wild Grace and will ask those interviewers if they have other recommendations for her.
  • Chelan’s work has connected with Daniel Ladinsky, renderer of Hafiz poetry who wrote the foreword for Chelan’s first book. She will ask him for promotional support with his audience.
  • Author will invite online and in person speaking opportunities from her international audience. So far this has proven quite fruitful.
  • Author will market to her audience on mailing list, Facebook and Instagram of 20,000 friends and followers.
  • Author will ask her close connection with NY Times Bestseller, Eric Weiner to promote Wild Grace to his audience and connect with him about speaking opportunities.
  • Author will invite her audience to promote Wild Grace to their local bookstores.
  • Once a week Facebook postings of single poems from the book, for a month leading up to a Facebook Live event during launch week.
Events
  • Chelan is the keynote at the annual “Awaken” conference of Illuman, an organization devoted to men’s spirituality, in Virginia in September 2023. Chelan will ask if they can do a shout out about her book to their email list after her appearance at the conference.
  • She’ll arrange an in-person launch at Moon Mountain Highway, a craft studio and shop, near her home: https://www.moonmountainhighway.com/. She’s done events there before and they regularly sell Chelan’s books. She’s aiming for a November 14 (publication day) event.
  • She’ll also arrange a talk/signing at Waucoma Bookstore in Hood River, OR: https://www.waucomabookstore.com/
  • And then Jon will interview Chelan for a Zoom live event on November 14, 15, or 16 at 6pm west coast time. (We’re aiming to have 3 events publication week: Moon Mountain, Waucoma Bookstore, and this Zoom event.)

Other events:
  • She’s working on a swing through Seattle, with events on Whidbey Island and in Seattle proper. She has contacts in both places.
  • She’s never before done events to promote her books to Bahai communities (her childhood tradition), but now she will, particularly in the San Francisco Bay area, and Vancouver.
  • In Unity Church communities. She’s reaching out to contacts and wanting to do several of these.
