In general in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in North-Ubangi in particular, plantain cultivation constitutes one of the main multi-purpose crops, a favorite food for the population, and a source of monetary income for farmers at a time of record food insecurity. Bananas are an integral part of a range of farming systems from hut farming to plantation agriculture. They are also used sliced and dried to make banana flour, beer in industrial use, French fries, fritters, porridge, the stip is used as a log, the leaves for packaging and roofing, the sheaths are used as thread, and the different parts are used in traditional pharmacopoeia. It provides food for millions of people in the developing world.
