Having visited a number of rum-producing countries and islands over the years, the author's travels took him to Santo Antão in Cape Verde, where he discovered grogue, the sugar cane spirit. He found himself captivated by this exquisite product which embodies the unique flavours and aromas of the terroir. What started as a vacation turned into a life-changing visit. Countless tastings and friendly encounters inspired him to write a book about this special spirit in the hope of familiarising future visitors to Cape Verde with the sugar cane's journey "from field to glass".

About the author

As a pied-noir (in the Maghreb countries, a name for the French large landowners)
and son of an officer, the author spent a large part of his youth in Africa. From Algeria to Congo-Brazzaville, to the enclave of Cabinda, he and his family witnessed the events of the various national independences on the laterite tracks and paths (soils found in tropical areas)...

Committed to the army, his passionate character quickly leads him to new horizons and varied encounters.

From the West Indies to Guyana, from Brazil and other South American countries, his adventure journey continues on the islands of the Cape Verde archipelago ... and writing accompanies him as a scenario in the background.
