Pharmacognosy is the structural and scientific study of unprocessed medications that have an animal, vegetable, or mineral source. The term "identification of crude drugs by organoleptic methods" refers to the assessment of a drug based on sensory characteristics such as scent, colour, taste, and texture as well as gross morphology. The sensory characteristics of medicines include noting their colour, aroma, taste, and texture. Some medications, like cinnamon and clove, have characteristics like stone cells and volatile oils. The distinctive taste of drugs like ginger, capsicum, and liquorice can be used to identify them.
