Because of the favourable climate, Indo-Myanmar Hot Spot Region is very much rich in wild edible fleshy fungi. Consumption of these wild edible mushrooms by the local people are reported by various workers. Edible mushrooms are widely consumed by people all over the world as a healthy food, because they are low in calories and high in vegetable proteins, vitamins, fibres and minerals. They are also having strong free radical activity and the therapeutic potentiality for the treatment of cancer, heart ailments, diabetes, inflammation, hepatic damage, high blood pressure, etc. These mushrooms are also sold in the local markets of Indo-Myanmar Hot Spot Region. Mushroom cultivation is not only of economic importance, but also has important role to play in integrated rural development and self-employment among rural women.
