Tanzania Mainland has about 120 different ethnic groups. The Chagga is the third most populous ethnic group contributing 4.52% of the entire population as of 2012, also well known as the most vigilant entrepreneurs in Africa. This properly illustrated book covers all aspects of their ethno-anthropology, including histories before, during and after colonization; the roles and fate of sub-ethnic chiefdoms. Aspects of their physical and spiritual life have been outlined, including settlements, foods, drinks, clothing, dances, economic activities, religions and beliefs, together with rituals that span from conception, childhood, adulthood, old age, death and the afterlife. The impact of colonialism and westernization on Chagga cultural values is mentioned, including possible ways to salvage some of them for the sustenance of its ethnical identity through generations. This is the example of an African ethno-anthropological monograph written by Africans in an African perspective.
