About the author
Born and educated in Ukraine, Serhy Yekelchyk is Professor of History and Slavic Studies at the University of Victoria (Victoria, Canada) and current president of the Canadian Association for Ukrainian Studies. He is the author of seven books on modern Ukrainian history and Russo-Ukrainian relations, including the award-winning Stalin’s Citizens (Oxford UP, 2014).

Das Spannende an dem Buch ist weniger das zusammenfassende Urteil des Autors am Ende des Buches, wo es heiÃt: "the national paradigm played a progressive role as a tool for deconstructing the imperial version of their history" (S. 227). Vielmehr sind es die immer aktuellen und differenzierten Denkbewegungen des Autors, die von keinem anderen Historiker der Ukraine in ähnlicher Weise artikuliert werden.
