Jean-François Schmit aime se confronter à toutes les échelles de bâtiment et aux programmes les plus divers, qu'ils relèvent de la maîtrise d'ouvrage publique ou privée : des espaces de travail, telle une halle de maintenance d'avion sur un site aéroportuaire, à des ateliers-logements sur une petite parcelle parisienne ou encore une cité scolaire en milieu périurbain et une école entièrement réhabilitée. Ces bâtiments se nourrissent les uns les autres jusqu'à former un continuum. La clarté des espaces, leur générosité et leur convivialité, le souci d'insertion urbaine en respect profond de l'environnement d'accueil font partie des constantes de cette architecture, contemporaine sans être ni élitiste ni esthétisante, une architecture qui s'adresse avant tout à l'usager.
Une sélection de vingt-huit réalisations, construites entre 1985 et 2012, nous fait découvrir cette oeuvre plurielle.

Jean-François Schmit likes to engage in all scales of building and the most diverse projects, for both public and private sector clients : from workplaces, such as an aircraft maintenance hangar on an airport site, to artists' workshop-apartments on a small Parisian plot or a school complex on the urban periphery and an entirely rehabilitated school. These buildings cross-fertilise each other until they form a continuum. The brightness of the volumes, their spaciousness and attractiveness, the concern for integration into the urban framework with deep-rooted respect for the host environment are among the constants of this architecture, contemporary without being elitist or affectedly aesthetic, an architecture that primarily relates to the user.
A selection of twenty-eight projects, built between 1985 and 2012, introduces us to this multi-faceted opus.
