Children can sense your love for them, and through that love they will learn to trust you. Earning children's trust will help children grow and flourish, and realize their gifts. This is especially important in preschools and daycares, where the teachers and caregivers have the privilege of interacting with children of various ages and abilities.
In these stories of atypical children and their families the author has been in relationship in her roles as a daycare teacher, love truly conquered all obstacles. When communication was nonverbal, or when behaviour was difficult to handle, love was what brought about trust and resolution. With patience, guidance, and love, slowly but surely children thrived. The rewards of love and trust between children and caregivers are intangible, immeasurable, and deeply satisfying.

Diana Gomes Sajoo is a daycare teacher and has operated a family daycare for ten years. She has a Montessori diploma and has completed training and workshops in the ECE program, special needs program, and infant and toddler programs. She has been a Beaver Scout leader and a Catechist, where her gift for working with children was revealed.
Diana lives with her spouse in Richmond, British Columbia.
