About the author

JIRI ANDEL is Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic. He is the author of eighty-five scientific papers and four books written in Czech, two of which have been translated into German. Mathematics of Chance is the first of his books to be translated into English.

Summary

This introduction to elementary probability theory is intended to serve as a pocketbook for applied statisticians. Topics include random walks; the principle of reflection; the probabilistic aspects of records; the geometric distribution; optimization and others.
