This book analyzes Congolese legislation in relation to the zero deforestation commitments made by the DRC. The objective is to know if Congolese legislation sufficiently integrates the objectives of these commitments in order to facilitate their implementation in the cocoa sector. The collection of data (documentary technique, field surveys, focus groups, interviews) and the subsequent processing (legal method "exegetical interpretation", comparative analysis method, empirical approach) led to the results that the Congolese legislation associated with the national plan of action for cocoa production is not sufficiently implemented.Congolese legislation associated with the 2014-2020 national agricultural investment plan and the 2015-2020 REDD+ investment plan Effect 1, allow for sustainable cocoa production within the framework of the EZD. However, the institutional framework for implementing the plans and monitoring compliance is weak. As a result, cocoa production in the Yangambi landscape violates legal measures of sustainability. To this end, private certification standards remain the means for sustainable cocoa production in the short term, as national certification is a certification of quality, not sustainability.
