The term "nanoparticle" refers to solid particles or particulate dispersion with sizes between 10 and 1000 nm. The medication is either dissolved, trapped, enclosed, or joined to a nanoparticle matrix. Nanoparticles, nanospheres, or nanocapsules can be produced depending on the technique of preparation. Unlike nanospheres, which are matrix systems in which the drug is physically and evenly spread, nanocapsules contain the drug inside a chamber that is enclosed by a special polymer membrane. The ability of biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles to circulate for an extended period of time to target a specific organ, as DNA carriers in gene therapy, and to deliver proteins, peptides, and genes has led to their use as potential drug delivery devices in recent years.
