A young mother shares her feelings of love, hope and inspiration in this English-Spanish bilingual children's picture book, Growing Up: Creciendo. Author Mercedes Baker expresses her own emotions in this story, which many parents, guardians, and caretakers can relate to. This book started as a personal experience by the author as she was sitting back with her book in her lap and a pen in her hand. She was just watching her son and wrote down what she was thinking and how she was feeling. The rhyme scheme in this book portrays how her natural feeling is put into this sincere children's book. The metaphors are something everyone goes through in life, highs and lows, but at the end of the day, with strong love and support, a child can accomplish their dreams. "I'm hoping mothers, parents, care takers of children, and even children themselves can feel the love from the beginning to the end of this short, yet meaningful story," shares the author.
About the author
When I was growing up I always loved to learn, but it wasn't until my freshman year in high school when I learned about my love for literature. I am a young mom and I had my son when I was still in high school. One thing I knew for sure was that I wanted him to have love for books, because I knew he'd have a fun adventure learning this way. By the time he was one and a half he had memorized his favorite book, so I decided to make up stories for story time in bed. Since he'd fall asleep to my made-up stories, I knew they'd be good enough to write and publish.
