About the author










Bai Gao is Professor of Sociology at Duke University. His research areas include economic sociology, comparative-historical sociology, international political economy, and comparative political economy. Gao is the author of Economic Ideology and Japanese Industrial Policy: Developmentalism from 1931 to 1965, Japan's Economic Dilemma: The Institutional Origins of Prosperity and Stagnation, and Western Social Sciences and Japanese Studies. He is also an editor for High-Speed Rail: An Analysis of the Chinese Innovation System, and China-Europe Freight Trains: State Building and Market Building.

Zhihong Zhen is Professor of School of Sociology and Political Science in Shanghai University, Director of the Center for International Political Economy of Shanghai University, Director of the Institute of Gerontology of Shanghai University, and Secretary-General of Economics Sociology Committee of Chinese Sociology Association.His main research area include economic sociology, population aging, and international political economy.
