More than ever in our fast-paced world, our children need to take time to slow down and live in the moment.
What if they took the time each day to take in the world around them?
The soft fur of a kitten, the smell of fresh rain, the voice of a loved one - all of these things hold magic within them if you stop, breathe deep, and pay attention.
Look for the Magic takes us on a journey of discovery as we take full notice of the objects in nature as well as the experiences around us in order to see the peace and beauty inside each and every one of us.
Why is this important?
You might want to ask.
Because appreciating life,
Is really our task.
In a fast-paced and sometimes confusing world, today's youth need a way to tune into themselves which in turn helps them better understand social and emotional skills.
Mindfulness is being aware of what is going on in the here and now.
This includes the sounds, sights and smells of the world around us, but also our feelings and the sensations of our bodies.
The soothing rhythm of the rhymes, colorful illustrations, and the mindfulness practice of maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of all that surrounds and lives within us ultimately invites children (and adults too) to take a moment and really listen to what the universe is trying to tell us.
Written by a mental health therapist who understands how powerful mindfulness can be for children.
This uplifting book embodies the message of compassion for ourselves and others through gratitude, self-empowerment, living in the moment, and appreciating nature.
About the author
Jamie Chin is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), mother, wife, and author who writes classic children's books with positive messages. It's this background that provides Jamie with endless inspiration for her picture books from both her family and her clients. Dear Daughter and Dear Daughter, Love Dad were written, with her own daughters in mind, to show girls that they are loved unconditionally and that they are perfect just the way they are, particularly in today's social media landscape. With Look for the Magic, Jamie had her young therapy clients in mind, sharing messages of self-esteem, mindfulness, and living in the moment - all timeless messages that children need to hear more than ever.Jamie believes a great book is one that is relatable and builds connection with the reader. She hopes her young readers come away from her stories feeling uplifted and reassured, cherished and loved, and that this feeling stays with them long after the book is closed. Jamie is also the author of the upcoming book for young adults, Away You Go, a book celebrating the enduring bond of a parent with their adult child. When she isn't writing, Jamie loves spending time with her daughters, being in nature, watching movies, and traveling with her husband. They live in Northern California.
