The whole world is at war. So is her soul...

Sussex, 1914. Sophie Romano still grieves for her father. Plagued by nightmares of his horrific death, she tries to content herself with life as the head maid at a prestigious seaside hotel. But after her heart is broken by unrequited love, she seeks a new beginning training as a nurse in London.
With the bombs from the German Zeppelins and the suffering of her patients reviving her terrible dreams, Sophie fears she won't be chosen to serve on the Western front. And when an old flame returns and a cruel trainer makes life a living hell, the traumatized girl faces the ultimate fight to grow into the woman she's determined to become.

Amidst the madness of siren-filled streets, can she claim her own peace of mind?
