About the author
Gary V. Smith is a retired professor of Christian Studies at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee (2004-2010). He previously taught Old Testament and Hebrew at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri (1998-2004), Bethel Theological Seminary in St Paul, Minnesota (1983-1998), and Winnipeg Theological Seminary (1973-1983). He has published commentaries on
Amos (Christian Focus, 1989),
Hosea, Amos, Micah (NIVAC, Zondervan, 2001),
Isaiah 1-39 (NAC, B&H, 2009),

He earned a B.A in anthropology from Wheaton College, M.A from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and Ph.D. from Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Languages in Philadelphia. He did further academic research in Jerusalem, Israel and in Cambridge, England.
