Amicable Settlement Agreements are a tool through which petitions can be resolved in a non-contentious manner and agreed upon by the parties. The State, in compliance with the purposes of the Convention, seeks mainly to repair the damage caused to the victim through various forms, which may include the restoration of rights, medical, psychological and social rehabilitation, measures of satisfaction, economic compensation, as well as measures of non-repetition. Beyond this, friendly settlements are a new restorative legal paradigm for obtaining justice, which responds to the modern protection of human rights where they are understood as spaces for dialogue in search of peace, truth, reconciliation and social justice so much demanded by the States of the hemisphere. The main objective of this research is to analyze the degree of total, partial, substantial partial and pending compliance with the friendly settlement agreements approved by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights between 2010 and 2020.
