The dimension and impact of pressure injuries make them a health, social and economic problem, as well as a generator of deterioration in the patient's quality of life. It is up to nursing to take the initiative as the person most responsible for the integral approach to pressure injuries, both in prevention and treatment from the point of view of care, teaching, management and knowledge generation. For all these reasons, preventing, caring for and reducing the incidence of PBI is an objective of quality care. Therefore, we say that a sentinel event is an unexpected event that results in death or serious physical or psychological sequelae, or the potential risk of this occurring. Some of the adverse and sentinel events occur in circumstances in which there are prevention measures that should have been in place.
