Le matériau qu'utilise Simone Pheulpin est des plus simples : des bandes d'un calicot non blanchi, un coton brut traditionnel des Vosges. Méconnaissable, cette matière est modifiée dans sa structure et sa nature par son façonnage en un empilement régulier et dense de plis, maintenus sur l'intérieur par une multiplicité d'épingles à l'exclusion de tout autre procédé.
Circonvolutions, failles et effets de matière : l'aspect organique et minéral des ouvrages ainsi obtenus (dé)voile des espaces poétiques où rêve le regard.

Simone Pheulpin uses the plainest of materials : strips of unbleached calico, a traditional raw cotton from the Vosges. Modified in nature and structure, this fabric becomes unrecognizable, shaped into dense and regular accumulations of folds held together from within only by a multitude of pins, eschewing any other method. Convolutions, fissures and material effects abound : the organic and mineral appearance of these works (un)veils poetic vistas where the gaze alights to dream.
