Author Sara T. Behrman lives in Portland, OR, and is a children's book author and former librarian; The Sea Hides a Seahorse is her debut children's picture book.
Illustrator Melanie Mikecz is based on San Francisco, CA.
A portion of the proceeds from the sales of The Sea Hides a Seahorse will be donated to support marine education and seahorse conservation; several species of seahorses are classified as endangered or vulnerable, and their habitats are largely threatened by development, water pollution, and coral reef destruction.
The Sea Hides a Seahorse will appeal to the educational/library children's market, and specialty targets include aquariums and ocean/marine preservation organizations.
Gift market/bookstore pairings could include seahorse stuffed animals, seahorse/ocean-themed coloring/activity books, and other marine-related sidelines.
Will cross-promote with other ocean-themed WMP children's books: Otto and the Flying Orca, Catastrophe by the Sea.
Backmatter includes information about seahorses?their habits, diets, environments, physiological structure, mating/courting rituals, reproductive information?ways that readers can help protect seahorses, additional resources, and information about aquariums.
There is a subtle "seek and find" feature in the illustrations: a seahorse is hidden on one page, and their hiding spot is revealed on the subsequent page!Book guide TK

Summary
In lyrical prose
with beautifully rendered illustrations, this gorgeous picture book introduces
young readers to the amazing world of seahorses.
Hidden in the ocean of
colorful fish, octopus, kelp, sea sponges, and other wildlife is a most unique
creature: the seahorse. Watch it play in the seagrass, hunt among the
mangroves, and sway with the sea fans. Can you find it as it camouflages and
changes colors? The ocean is home to a variety of creatures, but the small and
delicate seahorse creates a beautifully rich and fascinating life that is
distinctly its own.
Featuring different
species of seahorses and seadragons across the world, The Sea Hides a
Seahorse is a subtle seek-and-find story that journeys underwater to glimpse into the secrets of seahorses
as they swim, hide, hunt, court, mate, and more. Included at the back is more
information about seahorses and how to support their protection and
conservation.
