In der Moderne und insbesondere den klassischen Avantgarden des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts ist eine ganz bestimmte Dialektik am Werk: Auf der einen Seite gibt es kühne Innovationen, radikale Negation und ästhetische Dogmen. Auf der anderen Seite gibt es auch eine gewisse ansteckende Art des Lachens. Die "enthusiastische Albernheit" oder Ungeschicklichkeit ist Grundlage vieler Kunstproduktionen und das bis heute. Der Humor der Katastrophe und des schlechten Geschmacks, Dadaismus, Camp, Trash-Kultur (B- und Z-Filme), Science-Fiction oder Horror bilden einige von vielen Facetten, die in der Bundeskunsthalle Bonn in dem Ausstellungsprojekt ERNSTHAFT?! Albernheit und Enthusiasmus in der Kunst präsentiert werden.
Der reich bebilderte Katalog zur Ausstellung, kuratiert von Jörg Heiser und Cristina Ricupero, vertieft die verschiedenen künstlerischen Epochen in Hinblick auf ihren Humor anhand der Essays von Charlie Fox, Jean-Yves Jouannais, Rhonda Lieberman, Sianne Ngai, Noemi Smolik und Timotheus Vermeulen. Mit einer Einleitung von Jörg Heiser und Cristina Ricupero.

The Humor of Catastrophe, Fiascos, and Shame
In modernism, and especially in the classical avant-gardes of the early 20th century, there is a very specific dialectic at work: on the one hand, there are bold innovations, radical negation, and aesthetic dogmas. On the other, there is also an infectious kind of laughter. "Enthusiastic awkwardness" or clumsiness was the basis of many artproductions and still is today. The humor of catastrophe and bad taste, Dadaism, camp, trash culture (B- and Z-movies), science fiction, and horror are some of the many facets that will be presented in the exhibition project Ridiculously Yours?! Art, Awkwardness and Enthusiasm at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn.
