Voyage of the Eclipse

Spring 1802, southeast Alaska. The Boston fur trader Eclipse runs aground on a mist-shrouded island, vulnerable to attack. About the author

Erik Hirshmann is a Professor of History at Matanuska-Susitna College, University of Alaska Anchorage, where he has taught since 2003. He holds a Ph.D. in American and U.S. West History from the University of New Mexico. Born in San Francisco, Erik grew up backpacking in the mountains of northern California and sailing on San Francisco Bay.
