The city is the basis of economic and social development and the creation of wealth, and its changes are too rapid for a way of life where comfort and a whole series of modern conveniences offered by the city are imposed everywhere, creating a standard of living that is becoming more and more widespread, erasing certain contradictions but also revealing glaring disparities. As a result of this evolution, the urban fabric has suffered numerous attacks and transformations and is affected by many social ills. The pace of transformation is accelerating in cities and development is becoming synonymous with destruction and waste of natural resources. The city is a symbol of modernity, progress and civilization, it has lost its cachet to embody a life with discomfort, insecurity and all kinds of nuisances, essential characteristic of urbanism. We are polluting natural resources, especially energy and water, faster than nature can replace them. This is especially true since most of the earth's inhabitants live or tend to live in urban areas.
