A powerful, moving true story from Sunday Times bestseller, Maggie Hartley, Britain''s most-loved foster carer. Perfect for fans of Cathy Glass and Toni Maguire. Three siblings arrive at Maggie''s door after being taken into care. Teachers of eight-year-old Bobby spotted bruises while he was getting changed for PE and his dad, Lee, and stepmother, Brianna, have been uncooperative and hostile to Social Services. While they investigate, Bobby, as well as Brianna''s daughters, Melodie and Poppy, are all placed in Maggie''s care. But as the children settle in, a thought won''t let Maggie go. While Melodie and Poppy are clean, well-fed and immaculately dressed, Bobby is pale, severely underweight and crawling with lice. What looks like a case of neglect is actually something much more sinister and Maggie discovers that Bobby and his half-sisters are hiding a cruel secret.

About the author

Maggie Hartley has fostered more than 300 children while being a foster carer for over twenty years. Taking on the children other carers often can't cope with, Maggie helps children that are deemed 'unadoptable' because of their behaviour or the extreme trauma that they've been through. She's looked after refugees, supported children through sexual abuse and violence court cases, cared for teenagers on remand and taught young mums how to parent their newborn babies.
