Este libro es un viaje introductorio por la evolución genérica del despertar del sentimiento religioso con la cultura del cazador-recolector nómade, la religión incipiente del agrícola y la religión organizada del ciudadano urbano. Procederemos después con descripciones sucintas de las principales religiones organizadas. Visitaremos: hinduismo, sijismo, jainismo, budismo, taoísmo, confucionismo, sintoísmo y las religiones originarias americanas. Continuaremos con las fuentes fósiles de la religión judía provenientes de Egipto, la Mesopotamia, el Levante y Persia. Luego pasaremos a Palestina y su judaísmo. De allí visitamos la religión griega y su derivada romana, las otras grandes fuentes culturales del cristianismo. Visitaremos también al islam, hijo también del judaísmo. Con todo esto, estaremos mejor equipados para explorar la historia y presente del cristianismo. Prestaremos especial espíritu crítico a la Iglesia decana, la católica romana.
About the author
Carlos A. Garibaldi focuses on social history and writes in Spanish. He has published a book on the history of art (Introducción a la Historia del Arte de Occidente) and a book on the history of womankind (La Triste Historia de la Mujer en Occidente). Both subjects are linked to religion, so he became curious also about the spiritual and psychosocial dimensions and their relationship to morality. Born in Argentina but living for over three decades in the U.S., deeply religious in his youth but a skeptic today, he became focused on understanding the religious phenomenon, not for what it might reveal about the gods, but for what it reveals about us.
