Geschichte hautnah im Deckmantel eines Krimis

Fünf Winter begleitet den amerikanischen Polizisten McGrady während des zweiten Weltkrieges. Auf Honolulu stationiert, arbeitet er an einem Kriminalfall, der ihn schließlich bis nach Japan führt. Einen Tag später wird Pearl Harbour angegriffen und McGrady gerät in Gefangenschaft. Er schlägt sich immer weiter durch, stets mit der Gefahr im Rücken nie wieder nach Hause kehren zu können.

Das Buch hat von allem etwas. Wir lernen McGrady kennen und seine Kollegen, seine junge Liebe, seine Arbeit und den Krieg. Die Geschichte an sich ist sehr spannend geschrieben und McGrady hätte auch ein Zeitzeuge sein können, würde es ihn wirklich geben.
Der Kriminalfall zieht immer weitere Kreise und man hat das Gefühl McGrady bei der Jagd nach dem Mörder zu begleiten. Dazu kommen noch die Gefühle für Molly, seine aufkeimende Liebe, die früh getrennt wird. Ein Buch, welches man nicht mehr so schnell aus der Hand legen möchte.
