The work on "Promoting children with disabilities through sport and exercise" is divided into a theoretical and a practical part with examples of implementation in everyday school life. The main focus is on the role of movement and sport in the classroom. Their effect on physical, mental, spiritual and social development forms the core topic of the work. The theoretical part deals with the concepts of sport and disability in general and the different stages of child development in particular. The focus is on the promotion of children with deficits at pre-school and school age by educators and additional specialised personnel. In connection with this, the prerequisites for social pedagogical support in compulsory schools in Austria are explained. The topic is examined both in general and with regard to a common school day and physical education for the two groups. Integration and inclusion of children with - predominantly motoric to at least severe mental - disabilities in mainstream schooling are analysed.
