About the author

Howard J. Wiarda is Professor of Political Science and the Leonard J. Horwitz Professor of Latin American and Iberian Studies at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst. He is also Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, DC. He is the author of numerous books, among them Politics in Iberia: The Political Systems of Spain and Portugal, An Introduction to Comparative Politics, Latin American Politics and Development, New Directions in Comparative Politics, American Foreign Policy, Corporatism and Development: The Portuguese Experiment, Democracy and Its Discontents, and Corporatism and National Development in Latin America.
