Every spring, travellers come to Newfoundland from around the world to see the icebergs drifting southward. As big as a city block covered in office towers, or as small as a grand piano, these mountains of freshwater ice began thousands of years ago when snow fell on Greenland. Science writer Lawrence Jackson unravels the mysteries of icebergs for children in this clearly-written picture book, illustrated with remarkable water-colours, photographs and paintings on silk by Newfoundland artist Diana Dabinett. This informative keepsake is both educational and beautiful.

About the author

Lawrence Jackson was fascinated by the natural world. He grew up in the foothills of the Rockies, travelled extensively around the world, and lived near the sea in Newfoundland and Labrador for 27 years. Although much of his life was spent writing on science and nature for adults, Lawrence was always eager to share with children his deep interest in "how things work".
