“It’s over, Cuitlahuac. See that?” He signaled to the burning city. “There is nothing left.”

In this installment of The Great Tlatoanis of the Empire series we delve into Cuitlahuac’s universe during the few months he headed the Mexica empire, enough time to understand that Malinche (Hernán Cortés) did not respect the code of war, to understand that swords, armor, and horses together became invincible against the battle strategies known to them.
 
It is also the story of the tlatoani that managed to get the Spaniards out of Tenochtitlan, who chased them through the entire Anahuac Valley and cornered them. The man who would have been victorious if it hadn’t been for the sudden emergence of an unknown disease that covered its victims with hives until they died.

Sofía Guadarrama Collado ha estudiado la historia de las culturas mesoamericanas y de la Conquista de México desde hace 17 años.
