When I was a pirate, I woke up to whale song. A chorus of humpback, beluga and blue. They waved with their tails, as we sailed along. Back when I was a pirate, before I met you. Although these days Grandpa might prefer his rocking chair to climbing the rigging or hoisting the mainsail, he was once a swashbuckling pirate! As he tells his grandchildren tales of his piratical adventures on the high seas, their imagination takes them on an unforgettable journey. Treasure maps and sailing ships come to life in this heart-warming rhyming picture book about the surprising adventures of those you love. This is not only a story about pirates, but also family bonds and building memories.

About the author

Ewa Poklewska- Koziello was born in 1967 in Gdansk but currently she lives in Sopot. She is a graduate student of the architecture course from the Technical University of Gdansk. During her studies she was much more attracted to the decorative details of her architectural plans than to the technical aspects of them. Her real interests have led her to the decisions of changing her professional path and becoming an illustrator. She started illustrating books for children. She currently has several dozen books, coursebooks and children magazines published. She participated in many exhibitions of illustrations, e.g. in BIB in Bratislava. She was nominated for the IBBY prize several times.
As a child, she always held a pencil in her hands while being completely amazed by the paintings of Memling that were exhibited in the museum near her family house in the historic district of Gdansk. As an adult she adores children and meets them on many art workshops she is conducting.
