Mein Roman-Highlight

In der kleinen ländlich gelegen Stadt in den USA mit ihrer christlichen Privatschule ist den Schülerinnen und Schülern der Abschlussklasse daran gelegen sich ganz normkonform zu verhalten und bloß nicht aufzufallen. Die Protagonistin Chloe ist bi und hat zwei Mütter, und das scheint mehr als die Kleinstadt vertragen kann.
Ihre Welt und die ihrer Freunde gerät kurz vor dem Abschluss ziemlich ins wanken, als die beliebteste Schülerin und Vorzeigetochter des Direktors plötzlich verschwindet.
Dieses Ereignis ist Startpunkt für eine Schnitzeljagd und jede Menge Ereignisse, die die Stadt und die SchülerInnen ganz schön aufmischen und ggf auch aufrütteln werden.

Das Buch dreht sich um die entscheidenden Momente der Selbstfindung und wie man auch in einer unterdrückenden Gesellschaft eine eigene Persönlichkeit entwickeln kann.
Das Buch rückt den Fokus auf Emotionen, Freundschaften und Vertrauen, Familien und die Wichtigkeit von Vorbildern. Dabei ist es nie belehrend - das Verständnis von queeren Begriffen kommt mit dem Lesen ganz von selbst.

Der Roman Buch schafft es in meinen Augen selbst ein Vorbild zu sein und ich kann ihn nur jedem jungen Menschen empfehlen, unabhängig von queeren Themen die hier angesprochen werden überzeugt die Botschaft an alle jungen Menschen - sei du selbst und stehe für das ein was du machst und wer du bist.
Mir hat es große Freude bereitet das Buch zu lesen. Definitiv mein Roman-Highlight des Jahres.
