About the author

Lisa Auslander is the principal investigator and senior project director for Bridges to Academic Success, a project of the Graduate Center, CUNY. She is a former teacher, coach, and administrator in New York City schools.
Joanna Yip is a curriculum specialist for multilingual learners and an instructional coach.
