There is growing and authoritative evidence of linkages between the infrastructure development and the work of ward councillors as representatives or chairpersons of the community in their wards and the municipalities in general. Until now, efforts to map a connexion between infrastructure development and the work of ward councillors in numerous contexts and economic factors have a direct link in that the Constitution direct that municipalities must manage, budget and plan processes that would give priority to the basic needs of the community and promote social and economic development of the community. Infrastructure development is the component of basic needs of the community and therefore infrastructure development is a nexus with the work of ward councillors. This book on Local Government: Ask the Ward Councillor-an Infrastructure Development Nexus is an effort to entice ward councillors in particular, council authorities, government and local government in general about the massive role that ward councillors must play in infrastructure development planning, development, upgrade, maintenance, refurbishment, funding mechanisms and revenue generation for such infrastructure.

Dr Gezani Mazibuko holds a PhD qualification in Public Administration focusing on Public Procurement. He held various positions in the South African Public Service such as being a Town Manager, Chief Director Research and Information Management, CEO for the Commission on Traditional Leadership Disputes and Claims, Director of Finance and Admin.
