The Sisala use lineage communal rituals to unify their kin units. This book details how such rites work in this way in some African societies. Such a unified lineage unit is functional as a workgroup, but also the group unity has allowed the Sisala to adapt to farming in a very harsh environment. In other words, the farm group united by family rituals, mostly focused on lineage ancestors, has provided lineages survivability in an evolutionary sense.
