Nicht wie erwartet, aber spannend

"One of the Girls" ist ein sommerlicher Thriller, der eine Gruppe von Frauen auf einem Junggesellinnenabschied in Griechenland begleitet. Sie alle verbergen Geheimnisse und am Ende des Wochenendes wird jemand nicht wieder lebend nach Hause fahren..

Es ist mir überraschend leicht gefallen, die sechs Frauen auseinander zu halten. Sie alle haben charakteristische Eigenschaften und Hintergründe, die sie unterscheiden, ohne karikiert zu wirken.

Es dauert eine Weile, bis jemand stirbt, was ich per se nicht schlimm finde, allerdings klingt es im Klappentext schon so, als wäre das der zentrale Handlungspunkt. Vielmehr stehen aber die Geheimnisse und zwischenmenschlichen Probleme im Mittelpunkt. Man könnte wahrscheinlich sagen, dass es ein "femininer" Thriller ist, aber ich halte nicht viel von der Genrebezeichnung Frauenroman.
Von mir aus hätte gar niemand sterben müssen, ich hätte auch ein ganzes Buch über die Beziehungen und Verstrickungen der Frauen gelesen, ohne dass es ein Thriller hätte sein müssen. Die Autorin hat die Charaktere einfach so gut geschrieben, dass selbst die unsympathischeren unter ihnen einen in ihren Bann ziehen.

Das Setting auf einer griechischen Insel macht das Buch zu einem perfekten Sommerthriller, den man am liebsten in einem Rutsch durchlesen würde. Durch den im Klappentext angeteaserten Tod, der früher oder später passieren muss, hat man mit jedem Kapitel Sorge, dass es jetzt soweit sein könnte. Das hat das Buch für mich zu einem absoluten Pageturner gemacht und ich bin nur so durch die Seiten geflogen.

Wer Lust auf einen Thriller hat, der sich mehr auf emotionaler und zwischenmenschlicher Ebene abspielt anstatt splatterig zu sein, sollte dem Buch unbedingt eine Chance geben.
