Anita Albus' künstlerisches Schaffen wirkt auf den ersten Blick wie ein Anachronismus inmitten der Schnelllebigkeit zeitgenössischer Kunstproduktion: mit zum Teil selbst hergestellten Farbpigmenten fertigt die Künstlerin u. a. detaillierte Pflanzen- und Tierdarstellungen an. Inspiriert wird sie dabei auch von den Stillleben der Alten Meister. Doch Albus bewegt sich auf der Höhe der Zeit, indem sie im Verschwinden der Arten auch ein Verschwinden von Kultur erkennt. An der Schnittstelle zwischen akribischer Naturforschung, kreativem Schaffen und hohem kunsthandwerklichen Können entstehen präzise und farbenprächtige Illustrationen. 2016 erhielt die Kunsthalle zu Kiel über die Karl-Walter Breitling und die Charlotte-Breitling-Stiftung ein umfangreiches Konvolut ihrer Arbeiten. Aus diesem Anlass erschien Die Kunst zu sehen im Rahmen einer groß angelegten Ausstellung. Die aktualisierte Neuausgabe dieses eindrucksvollen Überblicksbands lädt zu einer Entdeckungstour durch das künstlerische Universum von Albus ein.
ANITA ALBUS (*1942) ist Schriftstellerin, Illustratorin und Künstlerin. Neben ihrer Kunst veröffentlichte sie zahlreiche literarische Werke, die vielfach ausgezeichnet worden sind, und lässt erzählerische und illustratorische Darstellungsformen miteinander verschmelzen.

At first glance, Anita Albus’s artistic practice seems like a welcome anachronism in the midst of the fast pace of contemporary art production: the artist creates detailed images of plants and animals using color pigments she makes herself. She is inspired, among other things, by the still lifes of the Old Masters. Albus operates within the realm of the contemporary, recognizing the disappearance of species as a vanishing of culture. With her art, Albus moves at the intersection of meticulous nature research, creative work and high craftsmanship – the results are detailed and colorful illustrations. In 2016, Kunsthalle Kiel purchased a collection of her works through the Karl-Walter Breitling und Charlotte-Breitling-Stiftung and published the accompanying book The Art of Seeing. The new edition of this enchanting survey volume invites the reader on a discovery tour of Albus’s artistic research.
