On the Actual Linguistic Presupposition Triggers in the Dialogues of Sons and Lovers

This book is about presuppositions in the book Sons and Lovers. The author lists all the dialogues in the book Sons and Lovers, and picks up all the triggered sentences with what Levinson said about the presupposition triggers, sets up a database with all the triggers and sentences, then analyses the sentences with triggers which are worth studying. The book makes a statistic analysis of presupposition triggers in the dialogues of the novel at lexical and syntactic levels, and analyses the proportions and functions of presupposition triggers in the texts as well.

About the author

Jia Lu received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Communication at Texas A&M University. Now he is Assistant Professor in the School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University, China. His research focuses on information and communication technologies (ICTs)and social changes in China.
