Many meanings are hidden around the use of food. Cultural, social, religious and psychological factors play a role in the way food is used. And how food is handled. How, with whom and what one eats symbolizes different aspects of life. Italian and Spanish culture are cultures in which nutrition plays a central role and the social aspect is clearly present. Family, eating and laughing together are very important. This is in contrast to the fast food culture. Nutrition also has symbolic meanings and many metaphors can be found in nutrition. Food is always loaded with meanings and can be a metaphor for what we want to say to each other. Bread, for example, has many meanings. And did you know that there is a lot of symbolism hidden in the Mexican dish chiles en nogada? Religion, love and psychology play a large part in the way nutrition should be handled.
