Marina Abramovic fasziniert mit Performance, Filmen und zuletzt dem Opernprojekt 7 Deaths of Maria Callas weltweit ihr Publikum. An die Tradition der europäischen Mystik anknüpfend, entwickelte sie in den letzten fünf Jahrzehnten ihres Schaffens einen undogmatischen, individuellen Zugang zum Transzendenten, der die religiösen Traditionen um schamanistische, alchemistische und buddhistische Elemente erweiterte. Die von Nicole Fritz in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Marina Abramovic und ihrem Studio kuratierte Ausstellung widmet sich erstmals den spirituellen Aspekten im Werk der Künstlerin und folgt ihrer Reise ins eigene Innere an ausgewählten Hauptwerken. Der begleitende Katalog vereint interdisziplinäre Beiträge von Autorinnen und Autoren verschiedener Fachrichtungen, die einen neuen Blick auf das Werk der Künstlerin werfen.

Summary

Marina Abramović fascinates her international audience with performances, films and, most recently, her opera project 7 Deaths of Maria Callas. Following in the tradition of European mysticism, over the past five decades this pioneer of performance art has developed an undogmatic individual approach to the transcendent that expands the religious traditions by adding elements of shamanism, alchemy and Buddhism. The exhibition in the Kunsthalle Tübingen curated by Nicole Fritz in close collaboration with Marina Abramović and her studio is the first to be devoted to the spiritual aspects of the artist’s work by means of a selection of her major works.The accompanying catalogue brings together interdisciplinary essays, authored by a range of subject experts,which provide new insights into the artist’s work.
