Richard M Guerra began his journey in Soryu Karate in February 1966 under Sensei JOE ALVARADO in Austin Texas at the age of 14 years old. He was born in Austin Texas in August 1951 . He was a shy timid kid and was the victim of school bully's since he was 6 years old. The Soryu Karate changed all that after a few months of training Under the strict hard core Training under Sensei Alvarado. He was given the nickname " Tiger " by Sensei Alvarado due to his new found Selfe confidence and fierce fighting spirit. He became a fast brutal Karate fighter with a killer instinct from his Karate training . Tiger became a feared and respected Fighter . His love of Soryu karate never stopped. As he grew older his skills became sharp throughout his life by practicing Kata every day. He was promoted to the 7 th Dan by the late Soryu Karate founder Michio Koyasu in Jan 2006. In July 2013 He was promoted by his Sensei Alvarado to the 8Th Dan in Soryu Karate. Guerra Sensei is a US Navy Vietnam Veteran and served on the USS Jouett DLG 29 in the Gulf of Tonkin 1972-1973. He was honorably discharged in May 1974. He is also a wing chun Kung fu Sifu and was one of the first American students of Grandmaster Leung Ting of the Wing Tsun style and founded MANO DE GUERRA Eskrima Kali Arnis in 1975. He is sought after world wide for his teachings in Wing chun Karate and Eskrima. He lives in Austin Texas USA . He is the first SORYU KARATE Instructor in the world to write a book on This rare But effective Okinawan Style of Karate from the Root of Kanken Toyama's Shudokan Karate.
